Cypriot Fertility Idol: A Ceramic Workshop

Cypriot Fertility Idol: A Ceramic Workshop
Cypriot Fertility Idol: A Ceramic Workshop is provided by Arte Fino Art Space, an independent third-party host. Joy of Culture acts as a booking intermediary only and does not organize, supervise, or guarantee the experience.
Our Story
Step into my art studio in Nicosia for a hands-on ceramic sculpture session inspired by one of Cyprus's most iconic archaeological treasures — the cruciform fertility idols of the Chalcolithic period. Working with air-dry clay, you'll learn the traditional forming techniques used to shape these ancient figures: the flattened cross-armed silhouette, the elongated neck, the simplified facial features that have fascinated archaeologists and artists alike. Along the way, we'll talk through the history and meaning behind these figurines — their role in early Cypriot society, their connection to fertility and the divine feminine, and why they remain one of the island's most recognisable symbols (you'll even spot one on the Cypriot €1 coin). No experience needed. All materials are provided, and you'll leave with your own hand-sculpted idol to take home — a small piece of Cyprus's deep past, remade by your own hands.
