Our Story

In the heart of Cyprus, where tradition is not just remembered but lived, there is a story told through hands, fire, and milk — the story of halloumi. At our Halloumi Making Workshop, you are invited to step into this living tradition from the very beginning. Before the cheese is made, you’ll walk through our farm, where curious little goats and gentle sheeps welcome you as part of their daily world. It is here, among the animals that provide the very milk you will later work with, that the experience truly begins. Guided by local makers who grew up with the rhythms of Cypriot village life, you’ll discover how fresh milk is transformed into one of Cyprus’ most iconic treasures. You’ll heat, stir, and shape your own halloumi using traditional methods passed down through generations. At the end, you won’t just taste halloumi — you’ll have walked its journey, from farm to table, and taken home a piece of Cyprus itself. Come as a guest, leave as part of the story.

The workshop was excellent. Loula the woman making the halloumi was great and full of energy. Maria who was leading the event was translating everything word for word and was adding really unique experiences to the workshop. The workshop is very hands on compared to other workshops I’ve been to. I have already taken 3 friends with me. This was superb. Look forward to more experiences with Joy of culture - thank you!

Thoroughly enjoyed this workshop. It was hands-on and we really did get involved in every stage including straining, forming the block of cheese, adding weight to drain it, cutting, boiling and finally shaping and salting the cheese. We were able to taste all the different stages and take home some cheese that we made.
